The Botany At Dairy Farm Neighbouring Estates
The establishment of Bukit Panjang town began in 1981, with the first cohort of HDB flats completing in 1985, and for the next decade HDB blocks numbering the 100s to the 500s were erected on the huge piece of land encased by BKE to the East, KJE to the North, Petir Road to the South and Woodlands Road to the West. The locale south of Petir Road is predominantly private residences, with landed housing enclaves at Chestnut, Almond and Cashew estate. Land for condominiums was set aside more recently, and it is in the same area that The Botany At Dairy Farm showflat is located.
Bukit Panjang is a much quieter town compared to mature estates like the nearby Clementi and Boon Lay, and the new towns like Sengkang and Punggol that appear more regularly in the news. However, it has its major transformation in recent years. The recent was the development of the Intergrated Transport Hub joining the Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange, Bukit Panjang LRT / MRT interchange, Hillion Mall and Hillion Residences. This benefits residents in both Bukit Panjang and Cashew / Dairy Farm estate.
Bukit Batok town is a matured housing estate which largely sits on Gombak norite, and it was the vast amount of this rock that made Bukit Batok a pivotal site for the quarrying industry in the beginning of the mid-20th century. The Poh Kim Quarry, which sits in the heart of Bukit Batok Nature Park today, is a famous remnant of the quarry activities in Singapore during those days. The British had plans to industrialize Bukit Timah and the Ford Factory was built at the bottom of the Bukit Batok Hill. It has now been preserved as a historical site with exhibits detailing how Singapore survived the Japanese occupation in the 1940s.
The Bukit Batok town had recently expanded towards the North-West along West Avenue 6 to the edge of Tengah new town. Where for many years only 1 shopping mall, Westmall, served the residents here, the expansion added Le Quest as the second mall to meet the increased number of residents in the area.
